LS: A black woman who can write is powerful. What does that power mean to you? What made you want to write?

JH: I can inspire and uplift others, send messages of hope, and encourage others to walk out their God-given purpose. I have always loved journaling and writing poetry. God put the desire within me to write.

LS: Describe your pen style in five words? What do you admire most about your pen?

JH: My pen style is nonfiction, stories of transformation, victory, deliverance, humanity, and life lessons. I admire my transparency and how words are put together to make a powerful impact.

LS: Where does your creativity flow? How do you avoid burning out?

JH: My creativity flows from being in prayer, worship, and around water. I avoid burnout by setting aside time for self-care, sunsets, and spa days.

LS: You are one of the dynamic pens in the bestselling author collaboration of 2022, “The Breaking Point.” What do you want readers to experience and learn? Tell me about your chapter?

JH: My Chapter: My Seasons of Purpose Ecclesiastes: 3:1

“To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.”

The readers will journey with me as I share the seasons of my life and how I took my life back! I will impart how God lead me from a wilderness season to a winning season. They will witness my journey and areas that hindered me from becoming whole, from trials to triumph and pain to purpose. Despite my journey’s twists, turns, ups, and downs, I have discovered that my past failures cannot hinder my fruitfulness. He is faithful.

LS: What made you want to be part of this author collaboration?

JH: After being a bestselling author on my first anthology, For Such A Time As This, with coach Paulette Harper the experience was so phenomenal that I knew this was my passion and purpose to write.

LS: You inspire so many people, but who inspires you?

JH: I am inspired by my grandmother. She was a praying woman. I am inspired by Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, and Iyanla Vanzant.

LS: There is a high cost to pursuing and pulling your vision together. What has been the most challenging part of your journey?

JH: The most challenging part of my journey was marketing and getting in front of an audience. I am typically a behind-the-scenes person.

LS: What are your top five most essential elements in creating a powerful brand?

JH: Consistency, Community/Target audience, Content, Marketing, and Value.

LS: Budding authors face many challenges that can be overwhelming and, at times, complex for them to handle. What advice would you give to encourage new authors?

JH: Staff your weakness and hire a coach. Also, you must be creative and think out of the box to market your books.

LS: What can we expect from you next?

JH: Create a journal/workbook to include my chapter from The Breaking Point. An anthology Defining Moments -Stories of Strength Courage and Hope, release date TBD
